Ustaad Bhagat Singh, one of the biggest releases of the summer, failed to live up to expectations at the box office. Despite the massive hype surrounding Pawan Kalyan’s comeback, the film received a lukewarm response from audiences and ended its theatrical run as a commercial disappointment, resulting in significant losses for distributors and exhibitors.
With the industry looking for a major success, all eyes then turned to Ram Charan’s Peddi. Although the Buchi Babu Sana directorial performed well and emerged as a profitable venture in several territories, it fell short of delivering the blockbuster impact that many trade experts had predicted. As a result, Telugu cinema is still waiting for a genuine ‘super hit’ to revive the market.
The hopes now rest on two upcoming releases—Venkatesh Maha’s Rao Bahadur and Akhil Akkineni’s Lenin. While Rao Bahadur is expected to appeal primarily to urban and multiplex audiences with its experimental storytelling, Lenin is being positioned as a commercial entertainer aimed at viewers across all sections. It remains to be seen whether either film can provide the much-needed boost to the Telugu box office.
